Math

First graders will have “math facts” homework every night, Monday through Thursday, throughout the year.  This is the procedure we would like for you to follow.

1. Set aside a time and a place each day for your child to complete one of the four lessons on the homework page.

2. Check your child’s work daily and write the number of errors and your initials at the top of the lesson.

3. Have your child correct any mistakes.

4. The four completed homework lessons must be turned in each Friday.

The consequence for not returning homework is completing another worksheet.  If the paper is not graded and initialed, even though the student has finished it, he/she will be required to do it again.

In “addition,” the first grade classes will begin doing a Mad Minute every Friday.  This is a timed math test to see how many math facts the student can complete in one minute.  Initially, we will only do addition facts.  We will begin subtraction Mad Minutes later in the year.
